Annual foster parent event

Published: Monday, June 09, 2008
Guardians of Love, a Los Angeles-based, non-profit foster family agency, invited Consumer Action's Nelson Santiago to participate in its annual foster-parent appreciation dinner held on May 20.  The appreciation dinner takes place each May during National Foster Care Month.  Guardians of Love Event Coordinator, Nanci Wicks, extended the invitation after she attended Consumer Action's Privacy Roundtable held earlier this year. On the night of the dinner, more than thirty parents filled a room decorated festively with white balloons, white linen, and wrapped gifts for the attendees.  Santiago engaged the parents in his presentation based on Consumer Action's MoneyWi$e Identity Theft module.  Santiago emphasized during his presentation that even children—whether very young or teenagers—can become victims of identity theft. Wicks said that she greatly appreciates everything the parents do for the children and wants to give something back to them by bringing in speakers like Santiago.
