Sol Carbonell, Associate, National Priorities for Consumer Action, participated at the LULAC Wisconsin Latino/Migrant Conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Carbonell provided an overview of Latinos and financial literacy and discussed the challenges and opportunities in working with Spanish-speaking communities. “Educating Latino immigrants on how to make informed consumer choices and increasing their understanding of how to manage their money more effectively is crucial to improve Latinos' financial wellbeing,” said Carbonell to participants. In addition, Carbonell outlined the barriers, mistakes and most common complaints from Latino consumers and explained the key components of successful educational programs that are aimed at this population. Consumer Action provides brochures, guides and activities in Spanish for educators and community organizations working with Hispanic and Latino immigrants.
